Team Ohemaa Mercy issued a statement yesterday, September 19, 2024, clarifying the recent arrest of Kwaku Osei Krankye Asiedu, commonly known as KOKA, amidst ongoing legal issues involving the gospel musician. The statement emphasized that Becky from JoyNews had no involvement in the arrest, despite speculation to the contrary.
The team remarked, “The team and its lawyers take full responsibility for reporting the threats made against the life of the artiste Ohemaa Mercy, which led to the arrest.” They clarified that their decision to report these threats was made independently and resulted in KOKA’s apprehension.
Background on the situation reveals that Ohemaa Mercy has initiated legal action against KOKA due to alleged threats to her life and unresolved financial disputes. The case has drawn significant attention, with figures like Okraku Mantey attending court proceedings in hopes of mediating a resolution. Reports indicate that KOKA has accused Ohemaa Mercy of owing him over GHS 100,000.
Despite efforts to settle the matter out of court, Ohemaa Mercy has chosen to pursue legal redress, firmly standing by her decision. KOKA is currently in the process of arranging bail as the legal battle continues.
In their statement, Team Ohemaa Mercy extended their sincerest apologies to Becky, asserting, “We want to categorically state that Becky of JoyNews had no involvement whatsoever in this matter, nor was she responsible for the arrest of KOKA.” They concluded with a promise to provide further updates as necessary.
