From Divine Calling to Community Transformation: The Story of Apostle Dennis Terry-Bruce

Dennis Terry-Bruce

With deep roots in Obomeng Kwahu and Saltpond, Apostle Dennis’s journey from a humble background to a respected Christian leader is a testament to his faith and dedication.

He is the Founder and General Overseer of Olam Praise Chapel International (formerly Beautifulway Chapel International), a charismatic church based in Accra, driven by their mission to help people to discover God, grow their faith and relationship with God, discover their purpose, and be rooted in EL-OLAM. He is also the Director of Beautiful Star Educational Centre and the President of Terry-Bruce Impact Mission (T-BIM), a Ministry aimed at and committed to empowering and impacting lives and the world, though the undiluted word of God, life-changing projects, and results oriented activities such as workshops, seminars, etcetera.

Additionally, he is the Public Relations Officer for Odododiodio Pentecostal and Charismatic Council of Churches and the Acting President of Brothers Love Organization Worldwide (BLOW), USA. Apostle Dennis has authored three books, namely, The Tabernacle Prayer, The Spirit of Prophecy (Focusing on Prophetic Truth), and The Due Season (Giving to God). He is married to Lady Rev. Adobea Terry-Bruce, and they are blessed with amazing children.

Apostle Dennis’s early life was marked by a disciplined upbringing under his grandmother, combined with his education at institutions like Hasen Road SDA Prep School, Suhum Secondary Technical School, and the University of Cape Coast, which laid the foundation for his spiritual journey. He reflects, “My grandmother was a strict disciplinarian, and she instilled in me a deep respect for God and His teachings.” His academic and spiritual foundations were further solidified through his studies at Word of Life Bible College and Christian Leadership College at Royal House Chapel.

In 2003, a pivotal moment marked his calling to ministry. “While singing in the shower, I felt a tap on my head and heard a voice telling me to go to Accra ‘I have prepared a place for you to gather my people.’” Apostle Dennis recounts. This divine encounter led him to establish a place of worship in Swalaba, a community in the Odododiodio Constituency, in Accra, guided by Habakkuk 2:3.

The core values of Apostle Dennis’s ministry are discipline, order, and service to both God and humanity. He aims to impact his generation with the pure word of God and foster love and unity within the church. One of his major challenges lies in being called to raise people in an environment where the background of majority of the people is linked with high illiteracy rate, quarrelsome attitudes and overexaggerated spiritual churches.

He mentioned that “Sometimes, people want you to do what they want, not what you’ve heard from God, and your decision to stand by the truth can birth situations you didn’t picture coming your way.” However, despite facing challenges, including navigating the diverse spiritual needs and opposition, he remains resolute. “Many times, I’ve faced personal attacks, but through wisdom, prayer, and patience, I’ve overcome these obstacles,” he notes.

As a vessel, God has used Apostle Dennis to win souls, encourage the disturbed and troubled, heal the sick, edify, and to transform lives. Notable among them being how God used him to aid a woman’s daughter who was over 14 months old pregnant to deliver. “…the Holy Spirit instructed me to approach her and ask what was wrong. So, I did, and she explained that her daughter has been in labour for two days yet isn’t delivering the baby, further revealing that the pregnancy was already 1 year, 2 months old. I prayed with her and told her to go back because the daughter has delivered. And in less than 15 minutes, God was glorified,” he recounted. Further adding that God blessed him with a strong spirit of discernment, which he has held on to, up to date.

One powerful testimony that endorsed Apostle Dennis’s ministry was when by the miraculous power of God, he brought a woman believed to be dead back to life through fervent prayer. He narrated that, the woman’s family had approached him that their sister and mother was dead. He “felt she wasn’t dead” so too them, but when they got there, he realized that the woman was indeed” lifeless.” He could hear the Holy Spirit talking to him instructing him, so he obeyed.

“After 45 minutes of fervent prayer, I heard giant footsteps walking out of the room. So, I opened my eyes and asked the people with me to go back from the entrance of the door. We lifted a song God gave me ‘power and might belong to God’ and immediately the woman sneezed and came back alive,” He outlined, giving all the glory to God, “I acted as God instructed, and behold manifestation of His power.”

He maintains his spiritual grounding through fasting, prayer, and consistent Bible study. He emphasizes the importance of divine timing and seeks to emulate the example of biblical figures. His personal practices include avoiding distractions that could hinder his spiritual focus and embracing humility and correction.

Apostle Dennis’s ministry has made a significant impact, helping individuals with education, skills training, and healthcare. His dedication extends to the adoption of two children and consistently aiding the underprivileged and the aged in different communities. Looking to the future, Apostle Dennis envisions expanding his ministry’s impact. “I hope to establish a skill training center and develop my Beautiful Star Educational Centre into a full basic school,” he says. He is also exploring ventures such as livestock farming.

For those called to ministry, he offers this advice: “Understand the weight of the work and the sacrifices involved. Commitment to the vision and principles is crucial.” He draws inspiration from figures like Apostle General Samuel K. Ankrah (his spiritual father), Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, and Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, and finds guidance in works such as Rick Warren’s “The Purpose Driven Church,” and Smith Wigglesworth’s teachings on the power of scripture.
