The Ghana Police Service has countered widespread social media claims that Elrad Salifu Amoako, the 16-year-old accused driver in a fatal accident, is not being detained at the Osu Correctional Centre. In a statement released on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the police confirmed that Amoako, who was remanded to the Osu facility by court order on November 1, remains in custody as of this morning.
The police branded these claims as “false” and cautioned that circulating such misinformation carries legal consequences. “Publishing such information constitutes a violation of section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29),” the statement warned.
Additionally, police investigations have traced the origin of these rumors to two social media accounts: a TikTok account named “prisywanlov1” and a Facebook account labeled “EmpressPapa A-Amigos.” The police are actively working to identify and hold those responsible.
“We find it deeply unfortunate that a tragic incident resulting in the loss of two beautiful souls is being exploited in an unGhanaian manner to draw attention to oneself,” the police expressed.
