T.D. Jakes Reflects on Lessons Learned Through Crisis

In a deeply moving reflection, well-known pastor and author T.D. Jakes has shared how the most meaningful lessons about faith came not during times of success, but in the midst of hardship. “Everything I’ve learned about God that mattered came through a crisis,” he said during a recent sermon. He pointed out that it’s not achievements, recognition, or material gains that shape one’s spiritual journey. “Not a promotion, not an advancement, not a check in the mail, not the accolades of mayor that don’t teach you Jack.”

He went on to describe how life’s painful moments have played a pivotal role in shaping his understanding of God’s guidance. “Going through sickness and pain and chaos and trouble and heartbreak and disgrace and embarrassment and frustration and humiliation and depression and grief… everything I ever learned about the Lord is my shepherd, I learned it in a storm,” he revealed.

The pastor emphasized that true growth in faith happens during difficult times. “I learned it in a crisis,” he continued, underscoring that faith is often tested when everything seems to be working against you. “I learned it when the odds were against me. I learned it while they were talking about me like a dog. I learned it while they were rolling their eyes. I learned it while they were blogging about me. I learned it while they were lying on me.”

Despite the struggles, he urged his listeners to stay strong and resilient. “In the storm, don’t back up, don’t give in. Don’t give up, don’t retreat, don’t run from people,” he advised. “Don’t worry about what they think— their opinion is not your victory.”
