Apostle Selman Says That Poverty Misrepresents Individuals

Apostle Joshua Selman has drawn attention to the importance of financial well-being as a measure of success in the Kingdom, cautioning against the devastating effects of poverty on individuals and organizations.

“Being poor, broke, needy, helpless does not glorify God. Period. Settle it once and for all,” he declared, urging believers to change their perspective on financial struggles. He stressed that financial stress is not merely a spiritual problem, saying, “Going to the hospital to be treated because of financial stress is not a demonic issue. Poverty is very, very dangerous. It affects the whole man—spirit, soul, and body.”

Apostle Selman encouraged his audience to take intentional steps toward financial stability, guided by the Word of God. “Make sure you hate poverty enough to walk with the word of God and do something about it,” he urged. Highlighting the practical role of finances, he noted, “Money is not everything, but over 80% of your needs depend on money. Whatever accounts for your efficiency that far, it is foolish to ignore it.”

He spoke passionately about the societal toll of poverty, describing the cycle of dependency many find themselves trapped in. “There are people who beg and borrow for life. That’s what they do—they wake up in the morning knowing that if they don’t beg, they’ll go hungry. It misrepresents you, and you get to a point where your words don’t carry weight again,” he said.

Apostle Selman also emphasized how financial resources can help preserve integrity and honour. “Resources can help you protect your integrity. By the time you keep disturbing those that God sent to you, you will lose your honour. The garment of the priest was supposed to be for beauty and for honour,” he remarked.

In addition to finances, he underscored the value of strong relationships as a key component of success in the Kingdom. “Relationships are powerful; they are harder currencies than even finances,” he explained, noting that while money can purchase material items, it cannot replace the significance of meaningful connections.

Concluding his message, Apostle Selman outlined a six-fold roadmap for success in the Kingdom: spirituality, mental transformation, health and physical well-being, purpose and assignment, financial well-being, and quality relationships. “These principles, when applied, not only align you with God’s purpose but also protect your honour and dignity,” he affirmed.
