Gospel musician Gifty Osei, widely known as Empress Gifty, has firmly defended her actions on social media in the face of mounting criticism regarding her lifestyle and online presence.
In an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV on October 2, 2024, she voiced, “I don’t want you to just put me in a box that says, I want you to be like this, I can’t. I don’t want to fake. I don’t want to see you and smile while I know I don’t like you. I make sure I get good energy around me. So if my energy bothers you, you are a suspect.”
Responding to those who feel her behavior isn’t appropriate for a gospel artist, she dismissed such remarks, particularly regarding her dancing. “What song was I dancing with? Is it a gospel or a secular song? It’s a gospel song. So what is their problem? I am empty if I have to pretend for people’s approval.”
She also stated that she would not conform to societal expectations of how a gospel artist should behave. “If you want me to wear Jair Bia with a scarf and come and sit here and when you are talking to me, I do, that will show you that Empress is a woman of God. I’m sorry, I can’t be like that,” she emphasized. “If you love me, you love everything about me.”
Despite the criticisms, she reiterated that, “The people that love me, love me genuinely. And the advice I give them is solid. It really helps them,” she added. “If you are not working, don’t go and get married. It’s the facts.”
