Founder of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil reflects on Psalm 18, highlighting how God powerfully responds to His people in times of need. Focusing on verses 9 and 10, he explained that the Psalms are full of poetic language, using metaphors and analogies that require deeper interpretation. “Psalms work with poetry, and it’s important to interpret it with that in mind,” Pastor Otabil stressed.
In a YouTube post on October 2, 2024, Pastor Otabil unpacked David’s depiction of God “bowing the heavens,” interpreting it as a vivid image of God removing the division between heaven and earth to answer the cries of His people. “There’s no distance. When I cry to God, He hears me and removes any boundary between His spiritual place and our earthly situation,” he explained.
He then turned to the metaphor of “darkness under God’s feet,” explaining that this imagery conveys how God often works in ways that are unseen and difficult to grasp. “We don’t see His feet, we don’t see His works, but that doesn’t mean He is hidden,” he noted.
Pastor Otabil stressed the importance of faith in these moments. He urged believers to trust in God’s process, even when they can’t understand every step He is taking. “We don’t always need to see the process from A to Z; we just trust Him,” he remarked.
