Renowned preacher Arome Osayi has emphasized that prayer does not come naturally but requires intentional effort and discipline.
During a recent sermon, he voiced, “prayer will not come to you naturally. Exercise yourself.” Encouraging believers to develop a consistent prayer life.
To illustrate the need for persistence, he suggested unconventional ways to fight distractions during prayer. “If you need to pick stones and put them in your pocket so that when you sleep, the sleep will be so uncomfortable that you wake up, and if that one works for you, exercise yourself,” he said.
He highlighted that spiritual growth is not automatic. “Nothing will move you in the area of spirituality. It’s an exercise,” he stressed.
He also explained that true spiritual awakening comes from personal commitment. “You will never know that it is possible for you to operate supernatural and natural until you exercise yourself and enter into a spiritual domain,” he stated.
Expressing concern over modern attitudes toward spiritual discipline, he noted, “And when you push people in the church today, they say, ‘ah, you’re wicked.’”
Reflecting on his own journey, he shared how he once struggled with prayer but overcame it through discipline. “Prayer now is not a struggle. It’s as easy as my breathing, but it was not like that when I started,” he revealed. “I exercised myself until now. It’s natural to me to be spiritual.”
