Renowned actor Denzel Washington, celebrated for his compelling roles in Hollywood, took a significant step in his faith journey on Saturday. The 69-year-old was baptized and received his minister’s license during a heartfelt ceremony at Kelly Temple in New York City.

Speaking to the congregation with a mix of humility and gratitude, Washington reflected on his spiritual journey, saying, “It took a while, but I’m finally here. If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit.”

The ceremony was an emotional moment for Washington and his family. His wife of 41 years, Pauletta Washington, shared her pride in her husband’s spiritual growth. “Forty-six years later, here I’m still standing next to him as only God will have it,” she said, adding, “You are the head of our house, and you have set a great example for our children, who are now adults and understand the difference because we’ve shown them.”

Dressed simply in a gray T-shirt and black sweatpants, Washington posed for photos holding his minister’s license and baptism certificate, marking a transformative moment in his life.

This milestone comes just weeks after Washington spoke openly about his faith in an interview with Esquire. Addressing the challenges of living out one’s beliefs in the entertainment industry, he said, “When you see me, you see the best I could do with what I’ve been given by my Lord and Savior. I’m unafraid. I don’t care what anyone thinks.”

Washington also acknowledged the often-overlooked presence of faith in Hollywood, stating, “Faith isn’t often talked about in Hollywood. It’s not fashionable or sexy. But that doesn’t mean people here don’t believe. Faith is personal, and I carry mine openly.”

The event marked not just a personal milestone for Washington but also a testament to his ongoing commitment to his faith, offering an inspiring example for others to follow.
