Grace Ashly Criticizes Black Stars for Lack of Appreciation

Grace Ashly, the celebrated gospel musician known for composing motivational songs for Ghana’s Black Stars, has expressed disappointment in the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over their failure to recognize and support her efforts.

In an interview on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed, Ashly shared her discontent, emphasizing the lack of appreciation for her role in boosting the team’s morale through her music. “I was not on the field with the players, but I gave them the morals and power to play well. But things did not go on as well as I expected,” she said.

The musician, who has written several hit songs for the Black Stars, stated that she no longer intends to create music for the team due to their neglect. “They cannot operate alone. They need someone as well as moral support from the country in anything they do. They did not appreciate and treat me well at all. Everyone saw what I was doing for them, and if I received nothing for all that, then I do not think I will continue to write songs in their name,” she added.

She also recounted multiple instances of being ignored by football authorities despite her efforts to collaborate with them. “Because on three or four occasions I went to Nyantekyi. I have been to ministries, and it is like every time I go there to discuss with them, I do not even receive responses from them. I do not really understand why they were not being appreciative. It could be my efforts were not needed. They did not need anything that I was doing for them,” she explained.

Despite her frustration with the Black Stars, Grace Ashly remains committed to promoting peace and has called on Ghanaians to join a peace walk she is organizing with other celebrities ahead of the upcoming elections. “We call on all Ghanaians to come and ride behind us to walk for peace towards the upcoming elections. There has been little chaos in any elections, and the upcoming one is no exception. It is not as normal as people think. We will talk to ourselves and to politicians that peace is all we need,” she noted.
