Pastor Stephanie Ike-Okafor, Executive Pastor of ONE (A Potter’s House Church) LA has delivered a powerful sermon titled, “The Way of Maturity,” where she empowered believers to prioritize personal growth and maturity. The sermon was posted yesterday, October 7, 2024, on ONE’s official YouTube channel.
“The Lord has been dealing with me on spiritual maturity, that it is time for His people to mature,” Pastor Stephanie remarked, highlighting the necessity of taking proactive steps toward spiritual advancement. She observed that many Christians might find comfort in their current spiritual state and lack the desire to progress in their faith.
“We don’t desire growth. It’s not that we say we don’t desire growth, but how we respond to certain events tells us what’s in the heart,” she noted, emphasizing that complacency can impede spiritual growth.
She also pointed out the common tendency to make excuses for one’s actions, saying, “There are times that people will often use the language of ‘I’m not Jesus,’ so I’m gonna respond how I respond.” She challenged this perspective, encouraging believers to pursue transformation instead of accepting their limitations.
“Teach me how to be like Jesus,” she implored, underlining that Jesus serves as a model for believers to emulate. “He didn’t come just so that he can show us superiority. He said no, let me show you how you can also walk like this.”
Referencing biblical stories, she highlighted the necessity of discernment and preparedness for the future. “Spiritual maturity is going to be everything in this season,” she stated, observing that significant changes are imminent in the world.
Using Noah’s story, Okafor illustrated the importance of aligning with God’s voice and acting upon it. “Noah was a man who walked with God…he had a spiritual maturity that he could discern the move of God,” she explained. “When the Lord speaks, he knew how to respond to it immediately.”
She reiterated the importance of spiritual growth, encouraging Christians to actively engage in their faith journeys. “Build according to this pattern,” she urged, stressing that believers must be ready to do the work God calls them to, irrespective of their current abilities.
