Piesie Esther Reveals Inspiration Behind ‘Okuraseni’ Song

Gospel Musician Piesie Esther has opened up about the moving story that led to the creation of her 2017 song, ‘Okuraseni’, which was inspired by a profound experience in her community. Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes Show with Roselyn Felli, Piesie shared how she observed a woman in extreme poverty whose life drastically changed when one of her children turned things around.

“Poverty is hard, but hers was the hardest. All her children couldn’t break through, but one of her sons was stubborn among his siblings. After a period, he was nowhere to be found around the village. We searched everywhere but to no avail…the mother concluded that he was dead,” she remembered.

To everyone’s amazement, the son had traveled abroad with the help of an unknown person and eventually returned home with a car, surprising his mother. He later took her abroad, completely transforming her life. This uplifting story inspired Piesie Esther to write ‘Okuraseni’, meaning ‘Villager,’ which she considers her most cherished song.

Piesie also reflected on her own modest upbringing, explaining that she never imagined traveling beyond Kumasi due to financial limitations, as her family struggled to survive. “Kumasi was the only town I considered traveling to,” she explained. Her turning point came when she followed Rev. Seer Tony Asamoah Boateng to Accra, where she had the opportunity to compose her first song, ‘Apae’.

Relying on prayer throughout her musical journey, Piesie dedicated herself entirely to her music career without any side ventures. “From the beginning, I prayed to God for things to work out,” she said, expressing gratitude that her persistence and faith were rewarded, leading her to success as a gospel artist.
