Pastor Enoch Calls for Deeper Understanding of Faith

In a thought-provoking sermon, Pastor Enoch challenged believers to reflect on the reasons behind their church attendance, urging them to ask themselves, “Do you have an answer?” He questioned whether people go to church out of genuine understanding or simply because it’s a tradition.

Drawing from 1 Peter 3:15, Pastor Enoch urged followers to be equipped to explain their faith, stating, “Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

He acknowledged that many attend church because they were raised in that tradition, but warned that without a deeper understanding, faith could be easily shaken. “Many of you go to church because it was something that you were raised with,” he said. However, he pointed out that people might question their beliefs if they face intellectual challenges. He observed the post-lockdown trend where some people stopped attending church because they couldn’t answer why they went in the first place. “Some people thought, OK, I’m going to church so that God will not be angry with me. That’s why sometimes when they travel outside the country, they change. They don’t have answers to their practices. They go and realize that someone is not praying but eating. They start to think, ‘That means I don’t need to pray.’ But if you don’t know the reason for prayer in the first place, you won’t understand why you do it.”

Pastor Enoch emphasized that a solid understanding of the scriptures is essential for a strong faith. “You must have answers to the things you believe. It’s very important that your knowledge of the Word of God is correct,” he concluded.

In his sermon, he also warned about the dangers of greed and the destructive nature of money, saying, “When they see money, they will kill friends, they will kill everybody, they will do everything to get their money. Money is not safe.”
