Head Pastor of Kharis Church, UK, David Antwi has ignited a conversation about redefining the notion of church, asserting that it is not limited to a physical location or restricted to weekly services.
In a video posted on his TikTok page on September 24, 2024, he emphasized that the church represents the presence of Christ within believers, rather than just a congregation gathering in one place.
“I am the church. You are the church,” Pastor Antwi declared, challenging the standard views of Christian worship. He clarified that the church is more than a weekly event; it embodies a lifestyle that showcases Christ’s presence in every believer.
“Something that happens on a Sunday or once a week? No. Church is our life. We are wherever we are,” he affirmed, encouraging Christians to understand that the true essence of the church is found in their identities as followers of Christ, rather than in attending a physical building.
He elaborated further on the authentic meaning of the church, describing it as the manifestation of Christ within individuals. “Christ in you, Christ in me, Christ in him, Christ in her, Christ in them, that’s the definition of the church,” he stated, emphasizing that without Christ inside, one does not truly belong to the church.
