Very Demure, Very Mindful – That’s Who God Is

The phrases “very demure, very mindful, very cutesy” have been trending on TikTok recently, thanks to a viral video that has captured the attention of many. While these words have become a fun and light-hearted catchphrase online, they also offer a deeper reflection on who God is and how He interacts with us. God is indeed “very demure” in His approach, “very mindful” of our needs, and, though not in a “cutesy” way, exceptionally tender and loving in His care for us. In the midst of this viral trend, it’s worth pausing to consider how these characteristics of God can transform our understanding of His nature and deepen our relationship with Him.

To be demure is to be reserved, modest, and unassuming. These are qualities that may seem counterintuitive when we think of the Almighty God. After all, isn’t He the Creator of the universe, the One who spoke the world into existence? Yes, God is all-powerful, but His power is often displayed in the most unassuming ways. Think of how Jesus, God in the flesh, chose to enter the world – not as a king in a palace, but as a baby in a manger. His life on earth was marked by humility and service, not by seeking attention or accolades.

God’s demure nature, His reserved and humble approach, contrasts sharply with the loud and chaotic world we live in. He doesn’t force Himself into our lives or overwhelm us with His power; instead, He gently invites us into His presence. This is the God who, in 1 Kings 19:11-12, revealed Himself to Elijah not in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a still, small voice. God’s power is often displayed in the most unassuming ways, quietly and humbly, yet always profoundly impactful.

Being mindful means being conscious or aware of something, and God’s mindfulness is one of His most comforting attributes. He is acutely aware of every detail of our lives, every joy, every sorrow, every hope, and every fear. Being mindful is another attribute of God that resonates deeply. His mindfulness is more than just awareness; it’s an intimate knowledge of every detail of our lives. Psalm 139:1-4 speaks of this beautifully, reminding us that God knows when we sit and when we rise, He perceives our thoughts from afar, and He is familiar with all our ways. There is comfort in knowing that nothing escapes God’s notice – He is always aware, always caring, and always present.

God’s mindfulness means that nothing about us escapes His notice. He knows the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30), and He cares about the seemingly insignificant details of our lives. When we feel unnoticed or forgotten, we can take comfort in knowing that God is always mindful of us. He is the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to search for the one lost sheep, showing us that each of us is incredibly valuable to Him.

This combination of being demure and mindful is what makes God’s love exceptional. He doesn’t overwhelm us with His greatness, yet He is deeply involved in the intricate details of our lives. This is the God who invites us to cast all our anxieties on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). He may not always answer in the ways we expect, but He always responds with love, wisdom, and perfect timing.

As this trend continues to spread on TikTok, it offers an unexpected but meaningful way to reflect on who God is. He is “very demure” in His humility, “very mindful” in His care, and exceptionally tender in His love. These qualities, though often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of life, are at the very heart of who God is. And as we learn to see and appreciate these aspects of His character, we can deepen our relationship with Him, finding peace and comfort in the quiet, mindful, and loving presence of our Creator.
