Archbishop Duncan-Williams Cautions Against Betrayal

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has warned against betrayal, stating that it often leads to tragic consequences. He emphasized that individuals should not justify their pain by betraying others.

“Don’t betray anybody to justify your pain or to justify your right. You and I have no right whatsoever,” he stated. Using the biblical account of King David and Ahithophel, he explained how Ahithophel, once a trusted counselor, felt betrayed when David took his granddaughter Bathsheba and had her husband, Uriah, killed. “Ahithophel got offended,” the archbishop noted, adding that despite his wisdom, he was unable to overcome his pain, which ultimately led to his downfall.

He further stressed that betrayal carries severe consequences. “If you look at all those who betray others, they die prematurely and they don’t die well,” he warned, urging people to let go of resentment and avoid taking revenge.
