Mensa Otabil Emphasizes Word of God as Core of Christian Life

Founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has reiterated the importance of the Word of God in Christian living, stating that it is the bedrock of faith, prayer, and salvation.

Addressing a group of pastors, he challenged the idea that scripture can be disregarded in a believer’s walk with God. “People sometimes say, ‘put the Word aside, put the Bible aside,’” he said, questioning, “And I sit and do what? Because without the Word of God, there’s nothing.”

Pastor Otabil stressed that all aspects of Christianity, from the knowledge of the Holy Spirit to the belief in divine healing and the virgin birth of Christ, stem from the Bible. “How do we know that Jesus heals? From the Bible. How do we even know there was a man called Jesus who ever lived? From the Bible,” he pointed out.

Explaining the connection between scripture and prayer, he stated, “The Word of God is the foundation of prayer. Without the Word of God, your prayer is just self-expression.” He warned that prayers without a scriptural foundation could become self-centered rather than spiritually enriching.

He also spoke about the disappointment many face after achieving worldly success without God, revealing that he has personally seen individuals who, at the peak of their accomplishments, felt deep depression. “They thought the accomplishment was the answer… but it was empty, it was void, because if God has no place in it, it would never bring true satisfaction,” he remarked.
