Renowned speaker and author Priscilla Shirer shared profound wisdom on how to discern God’s voice amidst the distractions of daily life. She emphasized the significance of understanding God’s nature and the grace He offers, even when believers make mistakes in their spiritual journey.
“You do not know until hindsight that what you heard was the voice of God,” Shirer said, acknowledging that people often realize divine guidance only after the fact. “The reality is that there is grace and mercy to cover our missteps, and that the Lord in His graciousness toward us, His knowledge of our frailty and our humanity… He allows them to become our greatest teachers for hearing Him correctly in the future.”
Shirer stressed that God’s grace is not condemning but helps believers grow through their errors. “He does not hold it against us because we’ve misstepped along the way,” she said, pointing out the importance of having a willing heart to follow God, despite our imperfections.
Drawing connections between biblical events and modern-day challenges, she stated, “When you know His character, when you know the nuances of what He does say and what He doesn’t say… when you see His personality and His character, then you know when you hear the voice of fear that doesn’t sound like my God.”
Shirer also warned against the influence of human emotions and ego, saying, “When you hear the voice of your ego, pride, jealousy, divisiveness, stepping in… we can quickly, quickly pinpoint the voice of a stranger because if we know God, the more clearly we can discern and divide.”
Her message encourages believers to grow closer to God and strengthen their ability to recognize His voice amid life’s complexities.
