I Don’t Use Your Tithes for Personal Needs – Archbishop Duncan-Williams

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has reassured his congregation that their tithes and offerings are not used to fund his personal lifestyle, emphasizing that these contributions barely cover the church’s basic expenses such as electricity bills.

Speaking during a recent sermon, the Archbishop addressed concerns about how church finances are handled, clarifying that he sustains himself through various business ventures, both locally and internationally, which allow him to focus on his spiritual duties.

“I do so many things outside of preaching; when you look at me, don’t think it’s your tithing. The tithing and offering don’t even pay the electricity bill. I have investments, businesses here and abroad by which I make money,” Duncan-Williams said.

He added that, despite his personal financial independence, he remains a dedicated tithe payer and takes this responsibility very seriously. “I am a serious tithe payer. I pay more tithe than you all, and I’m very consistent. Sometimes I fight my office to make sure the tithe is set aside and paid before I touch the money,” he shared.

The Archbishop also criticized fellow preachers who neglect the practice of tithing, attributing this to their wealth and influence. “There are preachers who don’t tithe because they are too big. They become self-appointed fathers and men of God due to success and wealth but no longer honor the scriptures,” he remarked.

Tithing remains a contentious issue within Christian circles, with believers often divided over its necessity. This debate was reignited recently after Nigerian preacher Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God apologized for suggesting that those who don’t pay tithes may not make it to Heaven.
