The YouVersion Bible App achieved a significant milestone on January 5, 2025, with 798,000 downloads in a single day, marking the highest number since its launch in 2008.
This new record surpassed the app’s previous best, set on the first Sunday of the prior year. New Year’s Day also emerged as the app’s third-highest day for single-day installations, reflecting a global trend of heightened engagement with the Bible during the start of the year.
Bobby Gruenewald, the app’s founder, attributed the increase to seasonal resolutions. “What’s interesting is that this year’s increase is even higher than the same time last year, and it’s a trend we’re seeing globally,” he shared.
The app’s growth has been particularly strong in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Ethiopia led with a remarkable 198 percent rise in activity, followed by Egypt at 94 percent, Turkey at 74 percent, Ghana at 65 percent, and Pakistan at 48 percent. Northern Africa experienced a 297 percent increase overall, with the Middle East seeing a 166 percent surge.
The YouVersion app offers features such as Bible translations, daily scripture readings, and devotional plans in over 2,100 languages. With more than 850 million downloads worldwide, it continues to be a leading resource for digital Bible engagement and faith-based inspiration.
