Pastor Nick Nilson has called on individuals to examine their relationships and environments as they set goals for 2025. Speaking to his congregation, he highlighted the profound influence of surroundings on personal growth and the achievement of dreams.
“You can have 50 resolutions, a huge goal, and a big old dream and plan for 2025, but if you don’t surround yourself in the right environment, those seeds and that plan can’t fully come to fruition,” Pastor Nilson said.
He pointed out how relationships can either support or hinder progress, illustrating his message with an example: “You can want to lose 100 lbs, but if you’re surrounding yourself with somebody who’s lazy every day, it’s going to be difficult.”
Acknowledging that some environments are beyond one’s control—such as coworkers, classmates, or family members—Pastor Nilson urged his audience to focus on the relationships they can choose.
“I’m talking about the relationships that you can choose, the spaces in which you choose to spend your time,” he clarified.
Pastor Nilson also encouraged his listeners to evaluate the impact of their connections. “If your relationships aren’t making you better, if they’re not inspiring you or causing you to compromise, you may have to have the courage to lovingly create some distance,” he advised.
His sermon was a timely reminder that success is not only about setting goals but also about ensuring that the people and spaces around you nurture those aspirations.
