Popular Christian author and speaker Joyce Meyer has reflected on the challenges of trusting others and finding forgiveness, especially within the church. Speaking candidly, she shared a personal experience that tested her faith and ability to trust.
“People don’t trust people anymore,” she said. “That’s right. Because they tell things they shouldn’t be sharing, right?”
She recounted how a trusted employee of over 20 years betrayed her by stealing. “I was so shocked because I’d known him for so long,” she admitted. “And when he did that, the first thing that I said was, ‘I’ll never trust anybody again.'”
However, she revealed that God challenged her initial reaction. “God said, ‘No, no, you can’t do that. You can’t blame everybody for what he did,'” she explained.
She noted that this tendency to generalize hurt is common in church settings. “We get hurt three or four times, so then we blame everybody for what one person did,” she added.
Despite acknowledging the presence of challenges, she highlighted the beauty of the church. “The body of Christ is beautiful. It can sometimes be hurtful. There are bad people, but there are a lot of good people,” she said.
Her message is a reminder to embrace forgiveness and not let the actions of a few overshadow the goodness in others.
