Pastor Adeboye Apologizes for Linking Tithing to Salvation

Pastor Adeboye

In a recent sermon, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), apologized for a previous statement suggesting that failing to tithe could affect one’s salvation, acknowledging it was a misinterpretation of Scripture.

In a Facebook post made on October 4, 2024, he retracted his earlier view, saying, “For saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven—I’m sorry, that’s wrong. That’s not in the Bible.” He pointed out that the Bible only says, “Without holiness, no man shall see God,” recognizing that his former teaching on tithing was incorrect.

Using an analogy from his scientific background, he explained how even well-accepted ideas can evolve, comparing it to the outdated belief that light only moves in straight lines. “Light travels in one direction, but in waves”, he stressed.

He also urged believers to go beyond the standard 10% tithe, stating, “It is wrong to limit you to 10%. At a time when some of you should be giving 20%, 30%, 40%, 10% should be for beginners.” Encouraging more generous and intentional giving, he concluded, “Giving should be violently, violently.”
