UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu, has revealed that no fellow gospel artists checked up on him following a serious injury he sustained in 2023. During an interview on Joy Prime’s late afternoon show Changes on September 18, 2024, Badu expressed his disappointment in the gospel fraternity, noting that he was left to endure one of the most challenging periods of his life without any support from his colleagues.
Speaking with Roselyn Felli, Sonnie Badu shared, “Not even a single one checked up on me. Personally, if I heard that somebody had gone through something or seen it, I would have been calling. I don’t care whether I’m cool with you or not. But not even one person did.” The singer, known for hits like “My Confidence,” admitted that he never expected such neglect, especially from individuals within the gospel community.
Despite the lack of support, Badu drew strength from the situation and pushed himself to continue with his work, including his December Rhythms of Africa concert. He mentioned that while a few pastors such as Pastor Jerry Eze, Prophet Agyemang Prempeh, Apostle Amoako Atta, and Pastor Kingsley reached out, the absence of his gospel colleagues inspired him to persevere through the pain and deliver his best at the concert, even though the injury worsened on the day of the event.
Sonnie Badu, reflecting on the incident, also expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life, sharing that the fall initially appeared to be aimed at his head before shifting to his leg, which he believes could have resulted in death. Despite social media backlash from some Ghanaians who questioned the legitimacy of his injury, Sonnie Badu remains thankful for his recovery and continues to stand firm in his faith.
