Duncan-Williams Highlights Scripture as the Path to Victory

Duncan-Williams

Prominent Ghanaian preacher, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has reiterated the importance of scripture in navigating life’s struggles, asserting that human reasoning and emotions are inadequate in spiritual warfare.

Addressing his congregation, the Archbishop stressed that challenges are inevitable and must be met with spiritual preparedness. “You can’t come and live this well without fighting something; the adversary will put up a fight,” he declared.

He urged believers to equip themselves with the right spiritual tools. “You got to know that accepted weapon. The weapons that work,” he noted, adding that human intellect alone is insufficient. “May I submit to you that your logic is not enough when it comes to dealing with the adversary. He has no respect and value for your logic and your philosophy.”

The Archbishop dismissed the effectiveness of emotions or personal grievances in spiritual battles. “Your emotions and your tears and your complaints and your feelings—that’s not moving,” he asserted. Instead, he pointed to scripture as the ultimate weapon, referencing Christ’s example. “The thing is, yes, the move is what is written because He himself is subject to the Scriptures,” he explained.

He emphasized that scripture provides guidance in times of betrayal, exploitation, and hardship. “When men offend you, you must go to the scriptures and find out what the scriptures require of you when you are offended, when you are betrayed,” he advised. He warned that disregarding biblical teachings leads to spiritual defeat. “When we try, ladies and gentlemen, outside of the scriptures, we will live a defeated life till the day we die.”

The Archbishop encouraged perseverance in doing good, even when it seems unrewarded. “When you give and nothing seems to return and come back to you, when you tithe and begin to lose all your resources just when you are obeying God and trying to do right—what do you do? Do you continue doing the right thing, or do you stop?”

Concluding his sermon, he reaffirmed that living by scripture is the only way to achieve lasting victory. “Ladies and gentlemen, there’s no other way. There’s no other way. By the will of the scriptures.”
