The Archdiocese of Accra will mark the Solemnity of Assumption with its inaugural celebration from August 12 to August 15, 2024. This historic occasion invites Catholics to a profound spiritual journey under the theme, “We wish to see Jesus, the Son of Mary” (cf. John 12:21).
The celebration will unfold across several Grotto locations within the Archdiocese, including Christ the King Catholic Church in Cantonments, St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Tema, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Koluedor. Each day’s activities will begin at 4:00 PM, featuring a preliminary program designed to prepare attendees for the Solemnity.
The preliminary program includes a Novena of Assumption, a Deanery Penitential Procession, and Parish Adoration, aimed at fostering an atmosphere of reverence and devotion. These events will guide the faithful in deepening their understanding and reverence of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Archbishop John Bonaventure Kwofie expressed his excitement for the celebration, emphasizing its significance in strengthening the community’s faith and devotion. “This Solemnity of Assumption presents a profound opportunity for our community to unite and pay homage to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As we encounter the Son through the eyes of His mother, may our faith be strengthened, and our devotion to the Almighty be revitalized,” he remarked.
