Pastor Enoch Stresses Importance of Timing in Communication

Pastor Enoch Boamah

Pastor Enoch has highlighted the significance of choosing the right time when offering corrections, emphasizing that while addressing issues is necessary, the timing and approach matter.

“Sometimes, at any point in time, you want to correct something, but it’s not the right place to correct it because over there, the person has exerted some effort,” he explained.

Illustrating his point, he described a scenario where someone prepares a meal and is already aware that it is too salty. Instead of immediately pointing it out, he suggests first acknowledging their effort. “Now, you don’t have to lie. If it’s not good, tell the person, ‘I thank you for taking out your time.’ What are you doing? You are appreciating the effort because it’s worth appreciating,” he said.

However, he also noted the risk of delaying feedback for too long. “What if you are waiting for a few days, and because you didn’t correct it the first time, the person assumes you liked it? When will be the right time?” he asked.

He stressed the need to assess the situation before offering corrections. “You have to gauge the atmosphere. Some people, regardless of you reading the room, will still take it the wrong way. But I think appreciating the person’s efforts is important because it still took some effort for the person to do it,” he stated.

Pastor Enoch further suggested that corrections should be made thoughtfully and at an appropriate moment, even if within the same setting. “There’s a way to go about correction or expressing displeasure. You can say, ‘Well, let’s go for a walk,’ and while walking, you bring up the issue gently,” he advised.
