In a deeply moving sermon, Dr. Marcus Cosby encouraged his congregation to trust in God’s sovereignty during life’s most challenging moments.
Centering his message on Psalm 46:10, he delivered an inspiring message titled, “When It’s Out of Your Hands.” Reading from the King James Version, Dr. Cosby quoted, “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
He used this scripture to emphasize God’s power and control when human effort is insufficient. “Have you ever been at the point in life where you didn’t know what to do because there was absolutely nothing you could do?” he asked the congregation.
“Life will present circumstances where you have no authority, no ability, no power to facilitate change, but God remains in control.” Sharing a personal testimony, Dr. Cosby recounted his experience with his son’s recent battle with severe, unrelenting pain. “For weeks, I was helpless,” he said. “I couldn’t do anything about my child’s suffering. It was then that I turned to the Book of Psalms, my default in moments of despair.”
He highlighted the timeless relevance of the Psalms, noting how they reflect every human emotion. “If you’re on the mountaintop, there’s a Psalm for you. If you’re in the valley, there’s a Psalm for you,” he said. “Psalm 46 reminds us that God is still in control even when we feel completely out of control.”
Dr. Cosby urged his listeners to trust in God’s ability to intervene in their struggles. “If God’s hands are as big and strong as they are, it doesn’t matter that circumstances are out of your hands. God will work things together for your good,” he concluded.
The sermon offered a poignant reminder to the congregation: when life feels overwhelming, turning to scripture and trusting God’s sovereignty provides comfort and hope.
