Gospel singer Gifty Osei has opened up about the deep inspiration behind her hit single “Watch Me,” which she recorded during a challenging period in her life.
In an interview with GHOne TV’s Serwaa Amihere on October 2, 2024, she spoke about the unexpected creation of the song and the powerful effect it’s having on listeners.
She revealed that “Watch Me” was not originally part of her planned album but came into being after a surprise call from Kwame Eugene: “Two weeks before I was set to release a new song, Kwame Eugene called me and said he had a song for me. I was going through one or two challenges, and the message in the song was true to my situation.”
She described how she quickly shifted her focus from her album to record “Watch Me,” with Kwame Eugene both writing and producing the track. “I called my team and told them to wait. We went to the studio, and we recorded the song.”
The song has since attracted considerable attention, with her expressing amazement at the support she received. “For the first time, I am also the producer, and people are not demanding anything from me. They just want to help and push the song. It carries something, a spirit,” she said.
She also shared personal testimonies from fans, including one from a woman who landed a job after praying with “Watch Me.” “She was crying because for the past three years, she hadn’t been working, but after playing the song, she got a call from a company.”
Her aspirations for the song go beyond its popularity. “I want it to go all over the world, but it’s not just about that. It’s about making an impact and people connecting with God through the song.”
