The True Essence of Worship: Insights from Apostle Michael Orokpo

Worship

Worship is often understood as the act of singing or lifting our voices in praise. However, as Apostle Michael Orokpo emphasizes, true worship goes far beyond a song. During a sermon, he provided great insights into the heart of worship, defining it as an act of complete surrender to God.

Apostle Orokpo explained that worship is not simply about music or the songs we sing; it is an act of submitting one’s essence back to God. “When a man worships God, the God essence that is in him, he submits it back to God,” he stated. In this act of surrender, the believer allows God to be glorified through their life, offering up their very being as a form of fragrant worship.

This powerful teaching finds its roots in Scripture. Apostle Orokpo pointed out that the first time the word “worship” appears in the Bible is in Genesis 22:5, when Abraham was preparing to sacrifice his son Isaac. It was through this act of sacrifice that Abraham fully surrendered everything he was to God, demonstrating the ultimate form of worship. Abraham’s worship was not in a song, but in his willingness to release everything that defined him, even his beloved son, in obedience to God.

Apostle Orokpo likened this level of surrender to the ultimate act of worship demonstrated by Jesus Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane. “The loudest worship that Earth ever heard was in Gethsemane, when Jesus said, ‘Not my will, but Yours be done,'” he stated. In that moment, Jesus released His will to the Father, embodying the true essence of worship through total submission.

Worship, as Apostle Orokpo teaches, is the act of recognizing the God element within us and returning it to Him. Whether through obedience, sacrifice, singing, or dancing, the act of worship is about releasing that God-given essence back to its source. This continuous offering of oneself is what God desires and what He calls worship.

This revelation challenges believers to reconsider how they view worship in their daily lives. It is not limited to moments of corporate singing or music; rather, it is an everyday act of surrender. Every moment we choose to obey, sacrifice, or offer ourselves to God, we are worshiping.

For believers around the world, this teaching inspires a renewed perspective on what it means to truly worship. It calls for a shift from mere outward expression to an inward surrender of the heart, where worship becomes a daily act of honoring God with every part of our being.
