Ghanaian gospel artist Ewura Abena has shared her poignant journey through personal and professional challenges in the wake of her recent musical releases. In an emotional conversation with Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz, Abena recounted the significant hurdles she faced following the release of her single “It Is Finished” on April 7, 2023.
Just five days after the song’s debut, Abena was unexpectedly dismissed from her job due to failing to meet a target percentage. “I released ‘This Far’ on October 7, 2022, and it was well-received. Then, on April 7, 2023, I released ‘It Is Finished,’ and by April 12, I was fired from work,” Abena revealed. “It felt as though ‘It Is Finished’ had finished my job.”
The artist described her dismissal as abrupt, noting that although she fell short of the 24 percent target by a narrow margin of 0.2 percent, the lack of prior notice left her reeling. She reflected on a recurring pattern where personal setbacks follow the release of her music. “Every time I release a song, something challenging happens—whether it’s an accident or other difficulties,” she shared.
Abena’s struggle continued as she faced unemployment from April to September 2023. Despite the financial strain, she continued to produce music and tour. During this period, she took on a part-time administrative role at a hospital, though it came with its own set of challenges, including an injury that left her on crutches without pay. “I became bitter at first, but I realized that God had a plan for me,” she noted.
Amidst her trials, Abena found solace and strength in her faith. She described how, during her downtime, she deepened her relationship with God and received an unexpected opportunity. “When I returned to the hospital, I received an email from the government offering me a new job,” Abena said. “God knew I needed this change and provided for me despite the challenges.”
She concluded with a message of hope and faith: “When God commissions, He makes provisions for it. I’ve learned that instead of worrying, we should worship and trust in God’s promises over our problems.”
Ewura Abena’s journey highlights the resilience and faith required to overcome adversity, and her story serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
